Three Tips for Elegant Outdoor Holiday Decor

Decorating the outside of your home for the holidays while maintaining the elegance of your home and staying within your style aesthetic can sometimes present a challenge. Following are three key tips for outdoor holiday dcor to create the perfect blend of holiday splendor and upscale design.

1. Light it up

No holiday dcor would be complete without lights. But that doesn’t mean you have to turn your house into The Griswolds. A tasteful display of holiday lights can give your home some seasonal sparkle. Lights strung along your house can also highlight the architecture, while twinkle lights in trees and net lights on hedges create uniformity without going overboard.

To take the hassle out of having exterior lights, HGTV has a simple solution. “For a low-maintenance approach to exterior holiday lighting, consider timer activation. One of the most popular products available is a plug-in on/off module, which can handle up to 1500 watts. Although there are many styles available, most options simply plug into an exterior outlet. ”Does the idea of cords crisscrossing your lawn give you anxiety? Go cord-free with solar lights that charge during the day and stay lit for about eight hours at night.

2. Let it shine

The holidays are the perfect time to bring out the pretty. Gather up those silver bells, those glittery candles, and those gilded bowls and create sparkly displays that attract the right kind of attention to your home. Create a colorful vignette by using up extra ornaments that didn’t make it onto the tree and raid your kitchen for an extra tray to serve as the perfect receptacle. In lieu of ornaments you can use a collection of shimmery candles, evergreen sprigs and pinecones.

Large trees in your front yard make the perfect spot to showcase holiday decor. Hang these mercury glass outdoor ornaments and create a beautiful, reflective focal point. Don’t have the right trees for hanging ornaments? Bring in a trio of pre-lit trees for a festive display.

3. Keep it natural

Even if you don’t have abundant greenery in your yard, you can still create a verdant atmosphere during the holidays by bringing in garland. Choose a pre-lit version to dress up a doorway or to swag along a fence. You can also create a welcoming atmosphere by framing your entry or walkway with pre-lit pinecone greenery set inside column planters. Line a walkway with mini staked trees. Or, if your home’s size and stature warrants, use a full-size tree on other side of your entry for instant holiday glamour.
